What is Sunvibes
Sunvibes is a long-running creative project in virtual worlds that blends music, learning, and community. It began in 2009 in Second Life under the name OpenBuilding and has since evolved into many forms — from a building school and music club to cultural sims and free resource hubs in both Second Life and Opensim. At its core, Sunvibes is about exploring creativity in all its forms, with a strong love for world music (especially from India and Africa), as well as Linux, open-source software, and open concepts that encourage sharing, freedom, and collaboration.
When did Sunvibes start?
Sunvibes began in 2009, growing out of my early work teaching basic building in Second Life under the name OpenBuilding. What started as a small teaching project quickly expanded into a broader journey of creativity. While its forms have changed over time — from building classes to music venues and cultural sims — the core mission has always remained the same: to explore creativity, learning, and world music, with a special love for India and Africa.
What locations does Sunvibes have in Second Life?
There are currently four Sunvibes locations in Second Life:
🏠 Sunvibes HQ – the main home and meeting place
🛠️ The Sunvibes Workshop – a creative building space
🌍 Sunvibes Africa – part of the Whole Brain Health Project run by Lissena Wisdomseeker
🐧 Linux Café – located on the EduNation sim, hosted by Kip Yellowjacket, exploring Linux and open-source ideas
Where can I find Sunvibes in Opensim?
On the Virtual Worlds Zone grid (run by Kashi Takeshi), Sunvibes has three sims :
🏝️ Sunvibes – with the Sunvibes Workshop, resources, and themed areas
🌿 Shanti – peaceful spaces inspired by meditation, culture, and creativity
🌍 Africa – celebrating African music, culture, and wildlife

What kind of activities can I find at Sunvibes?
There are no weekly events at Sunvibes this year, but you can still explore the many different locations across our sims and other locations. Each spot offers something unique — from music-themed areas and cultural displays to creative workshops and full-permission materials you can pick up and use in your own projects. Does Sunvibes provide free resources?
Yes — sharing resources has always been central to Sunvibes. Visitors can find free and full-permission items in both Second Life and Opensim to use in their own creative projects.
